Tameka Drummer is currently serving a life sentence after being charged with possession of less than 2oz of marijuana. Drummer, a 46-year-old Black woman, was pulled over for a missing license plate in 2008 in Alcorn County, Mississippi, when her car was searched by police and the drugs were found. Dummer had two prior felony convictions: a drug charge and a violent crime, so the felony marijuana possession conviction triggered an automatic life sentence through Mississippi’s “habitual criminal” laws. You can learn more about her case here. Today’s action is to sign this Change.org petition requesting that Missippi’s Gov. Reeves grant her clemency or commute her sentence.
